Where it all began:
Palácio de Cristal
It was in October 1965 that the Associação Industrial Portuense (Porto Industrial Association) - today's AEP - presented the 1st International Exhibition of Agricultural and Industrial Food to the World. The venue was Porto’s Crystal Palace (Palácio de Cristal), and some of the big names of then – and now – were there: Calém & Filhos; Cockburns, Smiths & CA; Fábrica de Chocolates Regina; Fábrica Triunfo; Fábrica de Conservas ‘A Poveira’; Ramirez & Cª; Sical – Sociedade Importadora de Cafés, Lda; Vidago, Melgaço e Pedras Salgadas, and many, many other well-known brands.

The 2nd edition of the Fair took place 7 years later, since when it has been a two-yearly event. As the years have passed, the focus on ‘agriculture and industry’ has been giving way to ‘Food’. The 3rd edition, in October 1975 set out to spotlight the domestic wine-producing sector to a greater degree, with the 1st Display of Portuguese Wine.

In 1987, the Fair division of the Porto Industrial Association moved to its present premises in Leça da Palmeira, and became known as EXPONOR. In March of that year, the 10th International Food Exhibition opened in the new facility.

Alimentação – 13th International Food Exhibition
The 1st edition of VINIPOR and ENOTÉCNICA took place in March 1990; and the 13th International Food Exhibition was held the following month, under the aegis of the brand name that it has kept to this day: ALIMENTAÇÃO (FOOD).
The Fair has taken place with the same regularity (except for occasional exceptions) ever since, and now includes thematic halls, exhibitions and new sectors and products until today it has 7 Sub-Salons: Alimentação, Alitec, Embalagem, Enotécnica, Hotelmaq, Gourmet e Vinipor.
